Admission to Highlands Academy
Admission to the Academy is not competitive. Students are placed in the program on the basis of their academic progress and maturity. Early enrollment is advised so that we have sufficient time to review the student's portfolio, to administer any tests that might be required, and to develop the student's program in consultation with the parents. We can also provide suggestions to help you prepare the student for entry.
The courses are designed for parents teaching a child of school age, but can be used by adults who want to refresh and develop their own knowledge. The complete program includes all the materials you need for a full-year academic program of thirty-six weeks (three terms of twelve-weeks). Suggestions are made for summer reading to provide materials for those who desire a full calendar year of study.
We offer to parents who choose to enroll full academic support: placement and testing services, answers to study questions, and e-mail and chat advice, encouragement, and explanations. In addition, we work with you to develop an individualized program that is specially designed for your student. We do not charge any fees, but rely upon your generosity and that of other benefactors to support the work of the ministry.
Application for Admission Our calendar begins with the second Monday in September, but students may begin at any time. We take two weeks over Christmas and the week before Easter off as Winter and Spring breaks. The terms are named according to the break to follow: Christmas term, Easter term, and Summer term. All academic weeks begin with Monday and end with Friday. New lessons are posted on Sunday evenings.
