Highlands Academy is a faith-based educational ministry that supports and encourages parents who want to take greater personal responsibility for their children's education. We help you build a solid academic program that can be adapted to a wide range of student abilities and needs. Students study a full course of subjects and follow a regular course of Bible instruction. We work with the parents of enrolled students to develop individualized programs that are rigorous and challenging, but are not beyond the student's ability to be successful.
Admission to the Academy is not competitive. Students entering the program are expected to have mastered basic skills in numeracy and literacy and to be ready to begin a more advanced course of instruction. Our curriculum is designed for students who would be in Grades 5 to 12 in the American system (Middle and High Schools). Older students and adults are also welcome to join us to refresh their knowledge or master new subjects.
We are devoted to providing educational materials that are free. They are free of charge, free of state interference, and free of prejudice. We promote the freedom to believe, think, worship, and direct our lives as God is leading us to do. We rely solely on the generosity of our Partners to support the work of the ministry.
We use the tutorial method in our classes. This powerful and effective teaching method has fallen out of favor in the schools, but it is a natural approach for homeschooling. We do not "spoon-feed" students with workbooks and watered-down reading lists. We expect the student to develop the ability to learn, on his own from books, under the watchful eye of the tutor. Our role is to lead you to the best materials to study, to provide you with study guides and online help, and to offer encouragement, when you need it.
