Highlands Academy

Preparatory Program

The Preparatory Program provides instruction to parents of children who are at least eight-years old. The program is designed to help children develop numeracy and literacy to a level that allows them to largely learn on their own from books, online sources, the library, zoos, and museums, and by personal observation and experiment. Students entering the Preparatory Program should have mastered a book of number studies and several Primers and First Readers.

Students need enough skill with the computer to find files, open them, and get around the file with their mouse. Most children of age 8 have accomplished all of these goals. If not, you might want to look through our suggestions under Numeracy and Literacy to help your child gain the basic skills he needs to begin the program. Listed below are books typical of those that should be completed, before beginning the Preparatory Program.
